The Environment Office provides coordination and support to the Joint Council on matters that impact or may potentially impact SON's rights, interests and jurisdiction in Saukiing Anishnaabekiing.

The Environment Office receives direction from Joint Council to place efforts into matters in the territory that include, but are not limited to, land use, resource extraction, energy production, waste management, and our fisheries.

The goal of the Environment Office is to provide support to the Joint Council through processes of making informed, sound and strategic political decisions that reinforce and strengthen the stewardship role that SON holds in the Territory.

Communications

Our Communications Team plays a vital role in fostering knowledge sharing, community engagement, and transparency within the Saugeen Ojibway Nation. We are dedicated to keeping SON membership informed about important community meetings, events, and updates related to stewardship, initiatives, and issues that impact our Territory.

A cornerstone of our outreach efforts is our bi-monthly newsletter, which is distributed to SON membership. This publication provides updates on projects, events, and initiatives led by the Environment Office, along with articles celebrating our culture and connection to the land.

We manage the Environment Office’s social media platforms, providing timely updates and promoting community involvement. Through these channels, we celebrate the connection between our people and the land while fostering awareness of environmental stewardship.

If you have questions about our team, the resources we’ve developed, or how you can stay connected, we encourage you to reach out to us. Follow us on social media and subscribe to our newsletter to stay informed and engaged!
