The Saugeen Ojibway Nation (SON) has entered into a process with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) regarding a proposed Deep Geologic Repository (DGR) for low and intermediate level nuclear waste. The planned site is in SON’s Traditional Territory, at the Western Waste Management Facility, part of the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station lands. OPG has committed to not moving forward with the DGR project without SON’s consent.

For SON members to decide whether or not to consent to the building of OPG’s proposed DGR it is important that SON members are provided with all the information they need in order to make a decision. To this end, the SON Environment Office will be holding a series of community meetings throughout 2019. These meetings will happen both within SON’s Traditional Territory, was well as in locations outside where SON members are located. The purpose of these meetings is to both provide information regarding the DGR as well as to gather your feedback on the issue and ultimately have SON Members make a decision one way or the other.

Below is a list of community meetings to be held by the SON Environment Office – dates and locations will be added as that information becomes available. Check back here for the most up-to-date information regarding these meetings.
