Parks Canada: Peninsula to be referred to going forward as Saugeen Peninsula
The Resources and Infrastructure team would like to share that Parks Canada has announced that they will be referring to the Peninsula as the Saugeen Peninsula in its ongoing communications with operational “partners” who were recently sent an email message about the new policy. For the time being the name of the Bruce Peninsula National Park remains the same; but Parks Canada intends to begin a formal public consultation process leading to a possible change of name recognizing the park’s presence in SON's territory.
SON and Parks Canada have a working group that meets bi-weekly about all issues related to the Parks Canada and SON relationship. Working group members representing SON are Vern Roote, Miptoon, Juanita Meekins, Doran Ritchie, Jarmo Jalava, Ryan Lauzon, Bill Fitzgerald. Emily Martin has recently joined the group as a new Environment Office staff member.
