Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission Developing Terms of Reference with SON

Following the Bruce Power re-licensing hearing in May 2018, the Saugeen Ojibway Nation (SON) has been developing a Terms of Reference with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).  The purpose of the Terms of Reference is to strengthen the relationship between SON and CNSC and meaningfully involve SON in CNSC regulatory activities for nuclear activities in the SON Territory.  The Terms of Reference was signed on May 21st, 2019 at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton, Ontario.  Future work between SON and the CNSC will include developing new study and analysis programs, joint review of environmental protection reports, collaboration in the CNSC’s Independent Environmental Monitoring Program as well as review and analysis of the potential mitigation measures that could be implemented to reduce the impact of the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station on the waters of the SON Territory.
