Letter from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans re: Fish Harvester

Dear fishers
I am writing on behalf of Chief and Council. Many of our fisherman have been receiving notices from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) seeking re-payment of grant funding provided under the fish harvester benefits program. Chief and Council are taking a pro-active approach on this issue given representations and promises made by DFO regarding the program. We have called upon DFO to resolve the issue on an expedited basis in order to protect SON fisherman and our proven treaty and aboriginal rights. Legal counsel has been engaged to assist. If you applied for and received a notice of over-payment from DFO, please contact me at 519-375-1012 at your earliest convenience to ensure that we have as much information as we can about all SON fishers that may be subject to the DFO notices.
