Energy Associate

**Priority given to Saugeen Ojibway Nation Members

The Energy Associate for Bruce Power (BP) will be the principal coordinator for engagement between the Environment Office, SON Leadership, and BP. The Energy Associate BP will work with the Energy Manager and other Environment Office staff to coordinate meetings, develop work plans, manage budgets, and complete or coordinate reviews and analysis of technical documents, review and analysis of relevant policy and regulatory documents, and other items related to BP's ongoing operation within the Saugeen Ojibway Nation Territory. The Scope of this file covers a number of items, including TEEBO (Training, Education, Employment, Business Opportunities), Medical Isotopes, Community Engagement, and Environmental & Regulatory matters.

Supervisor: Energy Manager

Accountable to: Environment Office Manager / Joint Chiefs and Councils of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation

Term of Employment: 1 year contract with potential for extension (dependent on funding)

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week (Monday-Friday | Some weekends and evenings may be required).

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate meetings and activities between SON and Bruce Power
  • Prepare written reports and updates for SON's Nuclear Advisory Committee, SON Joint Council, and SON First Nations
  • Coordinate and implement community engagement processes related to the Project and to support the free, prior, and informed consent of the SON First Nations
  • Ensure that all meetings and processes are documented
  • Ensure SON's Aboriginal and Treaty Rights, interests, and concerns are addressed through duty to consult process
  • Work productively with Environment Office team members, SON Joint Council Members and committees, proponents, government and non-government agencies, legal, and other key individuals
  • Provide/coordinate strategic and technical expertise (environmental and/or economic/business)
  • Attend workshops, conferences, and other professional development opportunities to build on ecological, technical and legislative knowledge
  • Adhere to all SON policies & procedures, including Health & Safety guidelines
  • Demonstrate good judgment 
  • Respect the confidentiality of SON, the First Nations, and employee information
  • Deal professionally & courteously with all internal and external contacts
  • Seek guidance / direction as necessary in the performance of duties
  • Act as an ambassador for SON at all times 
  • General Administrative Duties
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year related work experience

OR

  • Minimum 3 years of work experience in a related field

AND

  • Comprehensive computer skills including MS Office, Web, Social Media Platforms
  • Relevant Knowledge and recent experience working with First Nations culture and traditions
  • Experience working with or within First Nations governments, or Municipal/Provincial/Federal governments
  • In-depth understanding of the Duty to Consult processes
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, including excellent presentation skills
  • Strong planning, organizational and time management skills
  • Able to work efficiently with competing priorities
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of accounting and budgeting principles 
  • Valid Ontario G Driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for work
  • Willingness to provide the results of a Criminal Background Check
  • Willingness to take all reasonable and necessary precautions to ensure personal health and safety and that of fellow works
  • Post Secondary Diploma/Degree in a related field is an asset.
